Classroom Management

The Five Theory-Based Classroom Management Models

In my viewpoint, teacher should first understand learners’ strength and weakness, family background, learning styles and interests. Then they develop their own approaches to manage the classroom, like the writer mentioned that teachers should have their personal approaches, those models are merely the references for teachers.
To manage the classroom effectively, it should contains good relationships between a teacher and students, teacher should communicate with those misbehaviour students, to understand their needs and reasons why their misbehaviours occur. Then let the students understand their mistakes, explaining how their misbehaviours affect their learning and other classmates, asking them how to improve their behaviour problems, how they going to act appropriately next time. In fact, the best way of managing the classroom is to not controlling students' behaviour and they can behave well in class antonomously.
Students who have misbehaviour can be a critical problem in class, which can affect teaching and other students' learning. It is time consuming for teachers if those misbehaviour students always act badly and does not listen to teacher's instructions, it will take more time for teacher to handle their problems, then teaching progress may be affected. Other good students may be influenced as well, some of them may follow the acts of those mishaviour students.
I think first impression is important to students, so teachers should be strict and more serious in the first lesson, so students may not make fun of teachers easily. Next, the teacher should tell students every rules, expectations and ensure they understand them. A teacher can make a name list of all students or dividing them into groups. If they behave well in class, teacher can give them marks and they can be rewarded such as stickers, candies or presents when they get higher marks.
In my class, they are primary 4 students. Half of them are good and smart students, half of them are weak students. A few of them are talkative, they always talk with their classmates in my lesson, even I stop their misbehaviour, they can stop doing that for a while but then they start to talk again. I have tried calling their names or giving them warnings however, these are not effective. Therefore, I chatted with them one day, and asked them what have they done in class, how they gonna improve their behaviour and promised me never do misbehaviour again. After that their behaviour seem better, so I praised them and they were satisfied too. Every time, they can keep behaving well and I will give them marks on their scoresheet.
Communication is essential for teacher and students, to build up a good relationship with students is important too. We should be positive and understand students' feelings and needs, in order to design the more appropraite approaches for managing the classroom.
